Radiator Painting Services in the Cotswolds

Cast Iron Radiators
Original cast iron radiators in Cotswolds period properties are built to last generations. Old paint layers, surface rust, and textured casting all need attention before any new coat goes on.
We strip back loose or flaking paint, treat any rust with a specialist primer, and apply heat-resistant finish to every surface including between columns. A properly finished cast iron column radiator is a feature in any Cirencester or Tetbury period home.
Steel Panel Radiators
Steel panel radiators discolour over time from heat cycling, contact, and cleaning. Standard emulsion paint is unsuitable and will peel quickly once the heating is turned on.
We clean and abrade the surface, apply a bonding primer, and finish with heat-resistant paint rated for continuous use. The correct products and approach produce a clean, consistent finish across the full surface.
Column Radiators
Modern column radiators in renovated Cotswolds properties are often specified in designer colours: anthracite, heritage green, deep blue. When the finish chips or fades, a full repaint is more cost-effective than replacement.
We match colours precisely using RAL standards or paint-to-sample mixing. Column radiators require methodical brush work around every vertical column. The finished result should be indistinguishable from a factory finish.
Heat-Resistant Paint
Ordinary gloss or eggshell will discolour, crack, and peel once a radiator reaches full operating temperature. We use specialist water-based or solvent-based heat-resistant paint rated to 120 degrees or higher.
Product selection depends on the radiator type, the colour specified, and the finish required. The correct product applied over correct preparation is what makes a radiator repaint last.
Colour Matching
Radiators in period Cotswolds properties are often specified alongside wall colours from Farrow and Ball, Little Greene, or similar heritage palettes. We match radiator finishes to complement surrounding decoration.
For cast iron radiators in particular, a period-appropriate finish in antique white or a deep period tone can transform a room. We bring swatches to the site visit and agree colour under natural light before any work begins. Radiators in bathrooms and bedrooms are included in our full-room service when agreed at quotation.
Our Radiator Painting Process
1. Assessment
We inspect each radiator in full. We check for rust, loose paint, surface damage, and whether the radiator needs to be drained or can be painted in place.
2. Preparation
All surfaces are cleaned with a degreaser. Any rust is treated. Loose or flaking paint is removed. A light abrasion creates a key before priming.
3. Priming
Specialist metal primer or rust-inhibiting primer applied to bare metal areas. Adhesion primer used over existing painted surfaces in poor condition. Full coverage required before top coat.
4. First Coat
Heat-resistant paint applied by brush in the correct sequence. Between columns and around fins done first. Flat faces finished last. Allowed to cure before the second coat.
5. Final Coat and Inspection
Second coat applied and checked under light for even coverage. Radiator valves and pipework cleaned down. Room left clean and tidy.

Radiator Painting Costs in the Cotswolds
Prices below are estimates only. Every radiator and property is different. Call 01285 708711 for a precise quote.
Radiator Condition
Surface rust, heavy paint build-up, or damaged casting increases preparation time significantly. A single steel panel radiator in standard size and good condition typically ranges from £60 to £100 including preparation and two coats.
Radiator Type
Cast iron column radiators take longer than flat steel panels — more columns mean more time per radiator. A cast iron column radiator (period type, preparation included) typically ranges from £120 to £220 depending on size and condition.
Colour and Coverage
Standard whites and off-whites are straightforward. Dark or bespoke colours may require additional coats to achieve full coverage. A full-house radiator repaint (8–12 radiators) typically ranges from £600 to £1,500 depending on mix of types and condition.
Combining radiator work with a full interior repaint is the most cost-effective approach. Call 01285 708711 for a combined quote.
