Window Frame Painting Services in the Cotswolds
Timber Sash Frames
Timber sash windows are the defining exterior detail on Georgian and Victorian properties across Cirencester, Tetbury, and Moreton-in-Marsh. Original sash frames are irreplaceable if damaged — poorly prepared frames are the most common source of paint failure on period properties.
We prepare sash frames fully before any paint goes on. All loose paint is removed, any rot stabilised or repaired with epoxy filler, and frames primed with an oil-based exterior primer before two coats of flexible exterior finish.
Casement Windows
Timber casement windows in Cotswolds stone cottages take the full force of weather on exposed aspects. North and west elevations show rapid deterioration if maintenance is deferred.
We open casements fully to paint all four edges correctly. Rebates, hinges, and locking points are checked during preparation. A casement frame that has not had its edges painted is one that will rot from the inside.
uPVC Repainting
uPVC window frames in post-1980s Cotswolds properties do not need to be replaced when they discolour or fade. A specialist adhesion primer bonds directly to the plastic surface without sanding through to bare material.
We apply a chemical adhesion primer followed by a flexible specialist coating in any specified colour — white, cream, anthracite, or heritage shades. The finish is UV-stable and typically lasts eight to twelve years.
Fascias, Soffits, and Sills
Fascias and soffits are often the first surfaces to fail on period Cotswolds properties. They are overhead and frequently missed during routine maintenance — paint failure on timber fascias allows water ingress and rot to develop quickly.
We work from scaffold tower or ladders for safe access to all heights. Timber fascias are stripped where needed, treated or repaired, then primed and finished with a minimum of two exterior coats.
Preparation and Priming
Preparation determines how long the finished job lasts. On exterior timber, we allow a minimum of one day for preparation before any primer goes on — removing all loose paint, sanding to a stable key, stabilising any soft timber, filling open grain, and checking all putty.
This approach is not the fastest. It is the only one that produces a finish that holds for five to eight years in the Cotswolds climate.

Our Window Frame Painting Process
1. Survey
We inspect every window on the elevation. We note paint condition, timber health, glazing putty, and whether any repair work is needed before painting can begin.
2. Preparation
All loose paint is removed. Soft timber is treated. Putty is replaced where missing or cracked. A mechanical key is created across all surfaces before priming.
3. Priming
The correct primer for the surface: oil-based for bare timber, adhesion primer for uPVC, flexible exterior primer for previously painted frames in sound condition.
4. First Coat
Applied to all surfaces including edges, rebates, and sills. Glazing lines are cut in cleanly. Allowed to cure fully before the second coat.
5. Final Coat and Completion
Second coat applied. Glass is cleaned down. Any masking removed. Site is left tidy. We confirm the work with you before leaving.
Window Frame Painting Costs in the Cotswolds
Prices below are estimates only. Every property is different. Call 01285 708711 for a precise quote.

Condition
Frames in sound condition with stable existing paint cost less to prepare. Frames with significant paint failure, soft timber, or missing putty require full preparation before painting.
Access
Ground-floor windows are straightforward. Upper floors require scaffold tower or extended ladders. Three-storey properties in Cirencester or Tetbury take longer to rig safely.
Scope
Windows alone cost less than including fascias, soffits, and sills in a single visit. Combining work means access equipment is shared and preparation overlaps — better value overall.
Typical range: single timber casement window £80–£150. Full front elevation with fascias £500–£1,000. Whole-house Georgian exterior £1,500–£3,500.
