Cotswolds Shed Painting Services

From standard garden sheds to large timber outbuildings, we treat every outdoor structure to a proper exterior standard.

Garden Sheds

Garden sheds are among the most neglected structures on any property. Untreated sheds in the Cotswolds climate deteriorate faster than many homeowners expect, particularly in low-lying valley gardens with persistent damp.

We clean, prepare, and treat sheds to a proper exterior standard. Overlap cladding is cleaned between the boards, and door edges, window frames, and corner boards are all treated as part of the job.

Timber Outbuildings

Larger timber outbuildings require a more thorough approach than a standard garden shed. Converted stables, timber garages, and agricultural storage buildings in Moreton-in-Marsh and Chipping Campden often have multiple wall sections and complex joinery details.

We work systematically across larger outbuildings, treating structural cladding, fascias, soffits, and door surrounds in a single visit.

Summerhouses

Summerhouses in high-value Cotswolds gardens in Tetbury, Cirencester, and Painswick are often focal points of the garden design. They are visible from the house and from neighbouring properties.

We use quality exterior paints and stains on summerhouses, applied to manufacturer guidance. Window glazing bars and veranda posts are treated with the same care as the main cladding.

Shed and Fence Combined Jobs

Many Cotswolds homeowners want shed and fence painting done in the same visit. We treat both structures using the same product range for colour and finish consistency.

Combining the two avoids separate call-outs and keeps the overall cost lower. For details on fence painting specifically, see our fence painting page.

Preservative Treatments

Some garden buildings benefit from a preservative treatment rather than a paint or stain. We use exterior preservative products that penetrate the timber grain and protect against rot, mould, and moisture ingress.

Older sheds in persistently damp Stroud gardens often benefit from more frequent treatment than buildings on free-draining limestone soil in the northern Cotswolds.

Our Shed Painting Process

1. Assessment

We inspect the shed or outbuilding, including cladding, doors, windows, and foundation. We note timber condition, any rot, and whether repairs are needed before painting.

2. Preparation

The structure is cleaned by brush or pressure washer. Loose and flaking existing coatings are removed. Damaged cladding and door edges are filled or replaced before we start.

3. Priming

Bare or weathered timber receives a stabilising primer or base coat. Areas with surface rot are treated with hardener where the timber is structurally sound but surface-damaged.

4. First Coat

Applied systematically from top to bottom. Roof overhangs, fascias, and window frames are treated before moving to the main wall cladding.

5. Final Coat and Inspection

Second coat applied once the first has cured. Full coverage of all surfaces is checked, including door edges and corner boards, before we leave.

Standard Garden Shed

A standard 6×8 to 8×10 ft garden shed typically costs £120 to £250 depending on timber condition and the product used. A shed in sound condition with stable existing timber costs less to prepare.

Larger Shed or Summerhouse

A larger shed or summerhouse of 10×12 ft or more typically costs £220 to £450 depending on size, window count, and complexity. The condition of existing paintwork and timber affects preparation time significantly.

Combined Shed and Fence Treatment

Combined shed and fence treatment for a standard garden typically costs £380 to £650 for both structures, variable with fence length. For decking treatment alongside outbuilding work, see our deck painting page.
