Fence Painting Services in the Cotswolds

Timber Fence Panels

Timber fence panels are the most common garden boundary in Cotswolds properties. Lap panels and feather-edge boards deteriorate quickly when left untreated in wet seasons.

We pressure wash the fence and allow it to dry fully, then apply a quality exterior wood treatment or paint. We match the product to the surface condition — bare, weathered timber gets a stabilising primer before the top coat.

Close-Board Fencing

Close-board fencing on larger plots around Cirencester and Tetbury needs more preparation than standard panels. Feather-edge boards have overlapping faces that trap moisture and debris.

We clean between boards before treating, working systematically along each run. Posts and arris rails are treated as part of the same job.

Garden Gates

Garden gates get more use than any other part of a fence run. Hinges, latches, and closing edges all need careful masking before painting.

Original timber gates on period properties in Chipping Campden and Tetbury are often worth preserving rather than replacing. Gate posts are treated at the same time as the gate.

Fence Staining

Staining is the most popular treatment for natural timber that homeowners want to keep looking like wood. Stain soaks into the surface rather than forming a film, so it does not peel or flake when the timber moves with the seasons.

We use exterior-grade stains with UV protection suited to the Cotswolds climate, available in natural cedar, medium and dark oak, and slate grey.

Protective Coatings

Some fence runs need a full opaque paint rather than stain. Holiday let gardens in Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold benefit from a hard-wearing exterior paint that holds up through heavy seasonal use.

We use exterior wood paints from Farrow and Ball, Dulux Trade, and Sadolin depending on the finish required. All coatings are applied at the correct coverage rate.

Here’s How It Works

1. Assessment

We inspect the full fence run, gate, and posts. We note timber condition, existing coating type, and any structural repairs needed before painting.

2. Preparation

Panels are pressure washed or scrubbed with a stiff brush. Loose and flaking paint is removed. Damaged boards are filled or replaced before we start.

3. Priming

Bare or weathered timber gets a stabilising primer or base coat. Previously painted surfaces in good condition are lightly sanded and cleaned before the top coat.

4. First Coat

Applied by brush or roller, working along each panel run. Posts, rails, and gate surrounds are treated in the same pass.

5. Final Coat and Inspection

Second coat applied once the first has cured. Coverage is checked across the full run. Hinges and latch hardware are cleaned before we leave.

Standard Fence Panels

A standard 30-metre boundary (one side) typically costs £180 to £350 depending on timber condition and product used.

The main cost drivers are length and height, surface condition, and whether stain or hard-wearing exterior paint is specified.

Close-Board Fencing

Close-board fencing across a 30-metre run, both sides including posts and rails, typically ranges from £350 to £650.

The additional preparation required between overlapping boards and treating arris rails accounts for the higher price versus standard panels.

Garden Gates

A garden gate with posts and surrounds typically costs £80 to £160 as part of a larger fence job.

Standalone gate work is priced on site. Call 01285 708711 for a no-obligation quote.
